I recently discovered William-Adolphe Bouguereau while visiting the Portland Art Museum. He was a French artist who lived well before my time (November 30, 1825 – August 19, 1905), but I was instantly drawn in by his realistic style. He makes the images come alive. It feels as if I could reach out and touch the items in the paintings. One day I hope to paint half as beautifully as this.
